I think humans evolved to hate things that look similar to us, but not exactly like us because that way it was easy to kill off those more peaceful competing hominids… Then again, this is based less on science and more on being depressed; so it might not hold up to peer review…

This is the question that rules my life.

People tell stories of men who wasted their lives chasing the fountain of youth, increasingly becoming obsessed with the ability to prolong life, and this is me. The fountain of youth I chase is technological rather than mystical, but so far it remains just as imaginary.

Some days I am hopeful and I feel charged, thinking of the amazing potential of technology in true futurist style. I work hard on these days, determined to move forward the science so that I can share in the wealth later.

But other days I feel that mankind is a failure. I cannot overcome these obstacles, and the vast majority of people don’t even care to try. They just sit and waste away, content with instant-gratification and self-indulgence, usually clinging to some ill-crafted delusion about spirituality or doing anything to distract from the thought of the oncoming darkness. I meanwhile am beating myself to death spinning a wheel that is taking me nowhere. I really should just quit it all and go enjoy my tiny speck of life. Nothing gets done on these days; I spend them in bed staring at the ceiling.

Today is the former, and thus: You fuckin people need to get it together. Quit giving all your money to entertainers and marketers and asshole salesmen for shit you don’t need. Science can and does make life better. You people need to love science. Do it.

Now please excuse me; I need to get back to work.
